The District:


The District is a medium-sized, municipal, water agency with a Board of Directors/General Manager form of government, 245 full-time employees and a $143.2 million combined annual operating and capital budget for FY 2024. Annually, the District delivers water to over 190,000 residents and businesses in the central and southern portions of Marin County and has stewardship responsibilities for 21,000 acres of pristine watershed lands on Mt. Tamalpais.


We have an exciting opportunity available for a Water Quality Intern! This assignment is for a 40-hour week. Duration of assignment is for up to six (6) months. The position operates out of MMWD's Corte Madera location.

The Position:


Water Quality Intern:


(1 position) Under direction of the Water Quality Laboratory Manager, assists in various laboratory and field operations, such as distribution system and reservoir water sampling, sample receipt and data entry in LIMS, bottle set-up, glassware/general house cleaning, reservoir algae investigations and treatments and additional miscellaneous water quality tasks. This intern will assist with analyses such as pH, conductivity, color and turbidity and will learn a lot about the analytical requirements of a drinking water lab. Equipment used for this internship includes pH meter, colorimeter, turbid meter, office equipment and others. Safety Boots required.


Typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position is for up to a six (6) month duration at the Corte Madera location.


Qualifications:


Must be 18 years old or older and have a California Driver's License with satisfactory driving record.


Education and knowledge in the areas of biology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental science, and or water quality. Must be detail oriented, possess good problem solving skills, ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, as well as have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Candidate should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office. LIMS experience is a plus.


Due to the driving requirements of some positions, a DMV Form H-6 may be required if applicant moves forward in the process. See selection process section of this announcement for more information.
