Under direction from the Manager of Wastewater Environmental Services, the Supervising Wastewater Control Representative plans, directs, and reviews the work of a group of wastewater professionals in implementing one or more of East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD's) critical, regulatory-driven programs: Pretreatment, Pollution Prevention, and Private Sewer Lateral (PSL). This position is key in ensuring that discharges released into EBMUD's interceptor system are protective of EBMUD's treatment processes and the environment and meet all aspects of EBMUD's Wastewater Control Ordinance, the Clean Water Act, and the Regional PSL Ordinance, as applicable.

Typical duties may include:
Planning, assigning, directing, instructing, training, and reviewing the work of subordinate staff and other employees involved in implementing pretreatment, pollution prevention, and PSL activities and other projects.
Coordinating work unit activities with other work groups and with representatives of outside agencies and organizations.
Developing and implementing efficiencies for program activities.
Developing key partnerships to advance EBMUD goals.
Managing interagency contracts for fats, oils and grease (FOG), sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) sampling, and PSL program support.
Managing technical studies and compliance.
Reviewing staff recommendations for enforcement actions and remedial measures that must be taken by commercial and industrial facilities to achieve compliance.
Reviewing staff recommendations for unusual PSL cases and advising on requests for relief from PSL requirements.
Leading the preparation and presentation of comments at enforcement hearings regarding EBMUD's pretreatment requirements.
Developing (or overseeing) projects to ensure EBMUD management of pollutants of concern such as PCBs, mercury, pharmaceuticals, and other emerging contaminants.

The salary range is $11,635 per month increasing to $12,217, $12,828, and $13,469 after 6, 18, and 30 months, respectively.

Requirements:
1. A bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, engineering, or a closely related field.
2. Four years of experience in environmental investigation and reporting, wastewater treatment, wastewater process evaluation or monitoring of wastewater discharge compliance.
3. A valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Must be willing and have the physical ability to perform the critical and important duties. Must be willing to be clean shaven as required to wear respiratory protection equipment. Must be willing to work outside of scheduled work hours as needed.
