ABOUT THE POSITION
The Gilroy Police Department is actively seeking an undergraduate-level or graduate- level Police Administration College Intern to assist police officers and other professional staff in various divisions. The intern will perform general clerical duties related to crime analysis, youth task form and gang prevention, public safety communication, community outreach, handle confidential information, and assist with other police related projects and assignments. The Police Administration Intern will also engage and interact with the community at various local community events.
The Police Intern will work under the direction of a Police Sergeant and/or Police Captain to help streamline the needs of the multiple units in the Police Department.

VOLUNTEER WORK SCHEDULE
Internships can start as early as May 31, 2024 and end as late as September 30, 2024.
This paid internship is offered at 20 - 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Interns may request a schedule of their choice during standard work hours as described below.
The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday - Friday between 8:00am - 5:00pm.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL:
- Be interested in a future career with the police profession.
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Have basic knowledge of computers and modern office procedures such as copying and scanning. Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook is a plus.
- Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality in the police department.
- Have experience working within community forums, and community outreach.
- Be able to multi-task, take direction and take initiative with assigned projects.
- Be bilingual (English/Spanish).
QUALIFICATIONS
- College majors in Administration of Justice, Criminology, Public Administration, or a related area of study may apply for this internship and should be one of the following:
- - A current college student in a Bachelor's program.
- - A current college student entering a graduate program.
- - A college graduate who obtained a Bachelor's degree within the last year.
- Must pass a background check, including a Department of Just criminal record check for employment.
- Prefer non-tobacco user.
