Due to growth, we are searching for a Planner/Scheduler I – Limited Duration (LD) to join our Facilities, Maintenance and Construction (FMC)Team. This fully benefited position is for a limited duration which is expected to be 7-10 years. This is a terrific opportunity to do meaningful work and to contribute to your community.

Examples of Duties
As a Planner/Scheduler I - LD, you will be responsible for learning to and utilizing the computerized maintenance information management system (CMMS) to plan, coordinate preventive , routine, and emergency repair, maintenance of treatment plant and pump station equipment. This level is the sub-journey level and you would be expected to learn and become competent to use your judgement and independence in performing routine to more complex tasks.

The following are just some of the items you will be working on:
  • Learn to plan, schedule and coordinate routine and non-routine corrective/preventative maintenance work for the wastewater treatment plant, lab equipment, pump stations, force main and process shutdowns.
  • Learn, under the direction from management, to prioritize and coordinate daily activities between teams and other Planner/Scheduler, contractors, vendors and other agencies.
  • Learn and keep informed of District activities and use relevant information in planning and scheduling work.
  • Learn and review, develop, and recommend changes to preventive and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Learn and coordinate data gathering and report formats, assist in preparing reports.

  • Learn and issue requisitions and approve invoices for parts, materials and services related to work.
    The Planner/Scheduler I position is alternately staffed and you may advance to the Planner/Scheduler II position after meeting the qualifications for and demonstrating the proficiencies of a Planner/Scheduler II. You would be expected to promote to a Planner/Scheduler II within 2 years or employment will be terminated.

    Qualifications

    Education, Experience and Certification: Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities indicated below. A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities is:

    A minimum of three (3) years' experience in water or wastewater plant operations and maintenance, or collection systems, fleet and facilities maintenance that has provide the knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position. Other combinations of education and experience may fulfill the requirements.

    You must be detail-oriented, highly organized, able to balance multiple areas of responsibility, complete work of a highly detailed nature, possess strong computer skills, a proven track record of producing accurate, high-quality work in a fast-paced environment, and strong interpersonal communication skills. Additionally, you must be able to prioritize work according to changing situations and requirements.

    The Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate:

    Knowledge of: The methods, practices, tools, equipment, materials and safety procedures used in the maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment used in wastewater treatment, pumping facilities and related equipment and/or wastewater collections systems, fleets and facilities; preventive maintenance program principles and practices and computerized maintenance management systems; and purchasing and inventory control.

    Skill in: Reading and interpreting plans, specifications, drawings, piping and piping distribution maps; estimating materials, labor, and equipment costs; inspecting work locations and equipment to determine work to be performed; coordinating work; assisting in implementing a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for the District; managing projects, including project tracking and record-keeping; and organizing work, setting priorities, and exercising sound judgment.

    Ability to: Understand and carry out oral and written instructions in English.

    Interpersonal Effectiveness: Ability to work effectively in a team-based organization; establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, all levels of District staff, regulatory agencies, peers, and the public; demonstrate effective leadership, problem-solving, and two-way communication skills, including the ability to listen, explain, facilitate, ask for input, and provide recognition and encouragement.

    Licenses, Certificates, or Credentials: Must possess a valid Class C California driver's license, have and maintain a satisfactory driving record, and be insurable by the District to operate District vehicles.

    Other Requirements: Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job including the ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk up to 2 miles/day (depending on assignment); sit up to 50% of time, work at computer, drive vehicle throughout USD service area on a regular basis (depending on assignment), climb stairs and ladders, access building roofs, kneel, squat, crawl in small spaces to look at equipment and find serial numbers and other data; enter confined spaces; sufficient strength to move up to 60 pounds; lift and carry up to 50 pounds approximately 50 feet. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and wear personal protective equipment as required. Must be willing to work overtime as needed. Work hours will be 5:00 am - 2:30 pm, with a 9/80 schedule (alternating Fridays off.)
