SALARY: $25.52- $30.99/Hourly (effective 06/23/2024: $26.29-$31.92/ Hourly)


THE AGENCY: Zone 7 supplies treated drinking water to retailers serving over a quarter million people in the Tri-Valley area including the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin and, through special agreement with the Dublin San Ramon Services District, to the Dougherty Valley area. Additionally, we supply untreated water directly to agricultural businesses for irrigation of 3,500 acres, primarily South Livermore Valley vineyards. We also maintain 37 miles of local flood-protection channels; about a third of all the Valley's channels and creeks.



Duties: This full-time paid summer intern assignment, approximately mid-June to mid-to-late August, will support the agency's Flood Protection Engineering section by assisting with projects and tasks such as:



  • Review design plans and specifications

  • Review/ update project budgets

  • Review engineering development referrals

  • Prepare maps, spreadsheets, reports

  • Update GIS maps

  • Conduct flood protection facility inspections

  • Update Zone 7 standard details in AutoCAD

  • Prepare and managing service agreements

  • Convert plans into digital format

  • Coordinate with design consultants


Clear training and objectives will be provided to develop skills for potential career opportunities in the water utility industry.



Training/Experience Opportunities:


Training and experience opportunities may include, but are not limited to:



  • How to review design plans and specifications

  • How to back-check comments on design plans and specifications

  • Site visits to flood protection facilities, taking photos, and data collection of flood protection facilities

  • How to create, execute, and manage service agreements for consultants and contractors

  • How to coordinate with and manage efforts of design consultants and contractors

  • How to manage a project budget

  • Learn about tools and features in GIS and AutoCAD



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Current enrollment or recent graduation (within last year) from a college or university, and successful completion of the equivalent of 30 semester (45 quarter) units of classwork

  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License

  • Ability to work in the field and office as needed
