THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will be an engineer with a demonstrated ability to work in teams on large, complex projects. Desirable knowledge, skills, and competencies include:

THE POSITIONS

The Assistant Engineer is the intermediate level non-registered class in the professional engineering series that allows the incumbent to continue developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities to accomplish more complex engineering projects. This class performs intermediate level professional engineering work in the design, evaluation, and construction of wastewater treatment plant, wastewater collection systems, stormwater systems, and related facilities; serves as a project manager on less complex projects; prepares and reviews engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations under the oversight of a professional engineer for wastewater and other facilities to ensure compliance with current industry practices, codes, regulations, and ordinances; applies understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; performs other related duties as required.

The Associate Engineer is the journey level class in the professional engineering series that allows the incumbent to develop the necessary skills to accomplish more complex engineering skills. This class performs journey level professional engineering work in the design, evaluation, and construction of wastewater treatment plant, wastewater collection systems, stormwater systems, and related facilities; serves as a project manager on medium complexity projects; reviews engineering reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations for sewers and other facilities to ensure compliance with current industry practices, codes, regulations, and ordinances; develops and demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; performs other related duties as required.

The Senior Engineer is the senior level class in the professional engineering series. Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility. Work is performed in accordance with professional engineering standards, laws, rules and regulations, and District policies and procedures. The Senior Engineer supervises and manages a wide variety of engineering and construction programs. This class develops and implements the capital improvement program, asset management plans, treatment plant improvements, and expansion, major maintenance projects, and regulatory projects as assigned. This class serves as a technical resource for lower level staff and Engineering Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

ASSISTANT ENGINEER

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering or related field AND one year of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, and construction of civil engineering projects, preferably related to water and/or wastewater.

OR
An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience which has provided the required knowledge, skills/abilities, and attributes and is able to perform the work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed).
License/Certificate:
Certification as an Engineer-in-Training in the State of California.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and safe driving record.

ASSOCIATE ENGINEER

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering or related field AND four years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, and construction of civil engineering projects, preferably related to water/wastewater.
OR
An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience which has provided the required knowledge, skills/abilities, and attributes and is able to perform the work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed).
License/Certificate:
Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and safe driving record.

SENIOR ENGINEER

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering or related field AND seven years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, and construction of civil engineering projects, preferably related to water/wastewater.
OR
An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience which has provided the required knowledge, skills/abilities, and attributes and is able to perform the work (with reasonable accommodation, if needed).
License/Certificate:
Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the State of California.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and safe driving record.

The Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District is a wastewater special district serving approximately 147,000 customers in Central Solano County, California, about 40 miles northeast of San Francisco. The District safeguards public health and helps protect the Suisun Marsh, the nation's largest brackish water marsh and the largest remaining contiguous wetland on the Pacific Coast of North America. Over several decades, the District has evolved from a technical engineering entity to a valuable resource manager, a partner in local economic development, and an active member of the watershed community. The District has taken numerous actions to shift traditional thinking about the way wastewater utilities are run.
