Valley Water - one of the largest water utilities in California and located in the South Bay Area - is looking for its next Director of Information Technology/Deputy Administrative Officer (IT DAO) to lead the IT Division within the Department of Administrative Services. This is an exciting opportunity to oversee an expansive network of IT applications, infrastructure, and services for Valley Water while also overseeing 39 staff and an approximate budget of $30M. THE DIVISION/THE JOB
The IT DAO will lead the IT Division and ensure the core IT services are met for all infrastructure, applications, networking, data center, and customer services. The IT DAO reports to the Chief Operating Officer and oversees 39 staff and an approximate budget of $30M. The Division supports 13 staffed facilities with secure networks connecting over 80 locations, 400 physical and virtual servers, and 2,400 computers/tablets and has a central data center with nine satellite data centers for business continuity. In addition, the Division supports a hybrid TDM/VoIP telecommunications network with over 2,500 phones, 180 emergency service radios, 400+ mobile devices, and 200+ software applications including: ERP (Infor), Asset Management (IBM Maximo), Email/calendar (Microsoft Exchange), Microsoft Active Directory, and GIS (ESRI).

The IT Division is broken into three business units: IT Projects & Business Operations, Software Services, and Infrastructure Services. Through extensive partnership with business stakeholders, the IT DAO will lead the Division in updating the current IT Strategic Plan, which focuses on four key areas: Data and Analytics, Modernization, Partnership, and IT Division Performance.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will balance a high level of technical savviness with strong interpersonal skills. They will champion innovation and propel the Division into the future by embracing the latest technology trends and best practices. Someone who is forward-thinking, knowledgeable about cybersecurity, and eager to grow the capabilities of their team is highly desirable for this role. The successful candidate will model excellent customer service while supporting an engaging work environment.

Employment Standards:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, computer or software engineering, business administration, public administration, or related field.
  • Six years of increasingly responsible administrative managerial or professional experience in the related areas of responsibility mentioned herein.
Desired:
  • Public sector/water utility experience.
