An immediate position is available at the East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD) Pardee Center based at the Pardee Reservoir near Valley Springs, approximately 85 miles from the EBMUD headquarters in Oakland. Under direction of the Superintendent of Pardee, the Assistant Superintendent plans, organizes, schedules, and directs the operation, construction, maintenance, rehabilitation, and security of water treatment, water distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, or related facilities and properties associated with EBMUD's water supply, production, and transmission system; supports the operation and maintenance of hydroelectric power plants and related facilities. and provides assistance in the office and in the field to the Superintendent as needed.

Duties of the Assistant Superintendent include:
Planning, assigning, directing, scheduling, coordinating, and evaluating the work of personnel; may act as Superintendent in the Superintendent's absences; may regularly supervise employees.
Developing or assisting in the development, updating, and administering Pardee record information, maintenance plans, operating standards and procedures, work rules, administrative policies and procedures, contracts, procurement procedures, and performance measures.
Assisting in the development and administration of annual operating and capital project budgets.
Assisting in determining personnel, equipment, and material requirements for efficient operations.
Working as a team within the Water Supply Division and the Water Operations Department, working closely with the Division manager, working with other EBMUD operations, maintenance, engineering, regulatory compliance, and recreation/watershed units to ensure effective coordination regarding Pardee and Water Supply Division activities.
Providing timely and clear reports, preparing memorandums and reports, writing letters, addressing unit employees, responding as part of the operations team to regulatory and other agencies, representing the Division with community groups and members of the public.
Working closely with Human Resources, Superintendent, and Division Manager in administering EBMUD personnel policies, developing job plans, evaluating performance, motivating employees, administering discipline, providing technical and safety training, and promoting career development.

The salary for Assistant Superintendent of Aqueduct/Pardee range is $11,930 per month increasing to $12,527, $13,153, and $13,811 after 6, 18, and 30 months, respectively.

Requirements:

1.A high school diploma, or its equivalent, plus 60 units of college coursework which preferably included sufficient general education, major, and/or elective courses that would qualify one for transfer to a recognized four-year college with junior standing; and either
2a. Three years of experience directing staff or subordinate employees in the design, construction, operation or maintenance of major water transmission or distribution facilities, or hydroelectric power plant, or water and/or wastewater treatment plant; OR
2b. Four years of journey level experience, in construction inspection, field investigation, electric power plant operation, surveying, or engineering work related to design, construction, maintenance, or repair of water transmission, storage or distribution facilities, hydropower facilities, water and/or wastewater treatment plant, or water quality control, or related work.
3. Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
4. Grade II (T2) Water Treatment Operator and Grade II (D2) Water Distribution System Operator licenses issued by the State of California within 12 months of appointment.
5. Possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class, including visual acuity to read materials in print, on the computer, and mobile devices; hearing sufficient to communicate in person and on the telephone; manual dexterity to type on a keyboard, calculator, and to write; sufficient agility to climb ladders and enter tunnels, aqueducts and other facilities; and physical mobility to traverse a variety of work sites including uneven terrain and steps.
6. Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
7. Willingness to work outside of regular business hours (overtime) as needed.
