East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD's) Wastewater Treatment Optimization group is currently seeking an Assistant Engineer who is a motivated, energetic, innovative, team player, with excellent writing and verbal skills, and has some experience and/or is knowledgeable in wastewater process, operations, and maintenance engineering, or wastewater-related research. In this role, the successful candidate will lead or participate in process area teams that conduct sophisticated wastewater treatment plant optimization projects involving innovative treatment processes or process modifications, automated process monitoring and control systems, state-of-the-art data handling technologies, molecular sequencing for bacterial species identification, and process computer modeling.

The most competitive candidates will possess significant knowledge of wastewater process engineering principles, sanitary engineering, chemistry, and microbiology; proper conduct of engineering studies; data management and analysis; wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance; project management principles and practices; excellent analytical, problem solving, and critical reasoning skills; and work extremely well with others. Experience will include success in managing process engineering or reliability improvement projects, performing water/wastewater or related laboratory analyses, writing technical reports, and preparing and delivering technical presentations.

The salary range is $10,290 per month increasing to $10,805, $11,345, $11,912, and $12,508 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements:

1. A bachelor's degree in an engineering curriculum accredited by ABET or a California Engineer in Training Certificate.
2. Two years of professional civil, electrical, mechanical, control systems, geotechnical, sanitary or structural engineering experience, at a level comparable to or higher than EBMUD's Junior Engineer classification, after obtaining the education outlined above. An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
3. Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
