Facilities Maintenance Technician II: $97,635.20 - $124,924.80 Annually

Valley Water is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Facilities Maintenance Technician I/II. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and operational support duties necessary to keep Valley Water buildings, facilities, and workspaces safe, functional, accessible, and operational.

This recruitment may be filled at either the Facilities Maintenance Technician I or II level depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience performing a variety of building maintenance and repair functions, demonstrate strong customer service and teamwork skills, and have the ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and vehicles used in facilities maintenance operations.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance and repair work involving carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, minor plumbing, ceiling tiles, lighting, doors, locks, roofing repairs, and related facility maintenance tasks.
  • Operate and maintain hand and power tools, ladders, air compressors, painting equipment, forklifts, aerial lifts, and trucks while following established safety procedures and work practices.
  • Support workplace operations and facility space needs, including office furniture moves, modular office reconfigurations, installation of suspended ceilings, construction of interior walls, and setup of new workspaces.
  • Assist with onsite and offsite event setup and teardown, including tables, chairs, podiums, canopies, and transport equipment.
  • Estimate materials, supplies, and equipment needed for assigned work and assist with ordering materials and maintaining operational readiness.
  • Support facility safety, accessibility, and functionality through preventative maintenance and responsive repair services.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Ideal Experience:
  • Facilities Maintenance Technician I: One (1) year of facilities maintenance, field maintenance, or general construction experience.
  • Facilities Maintenance Technician II: Three (3) years of facilities maintenance, field maintenance, or general construction experience.
Ideal experience for both level I & II:
  • Experience performing building maintenance, field maintenance, or general construction work.
  • Experience performing carpentry, painting, drywall repair, flooring installation, plumbing repairs, or related maintenance functions.
  • Experience supporting facility operations, workspace moves, event setup, or modular office reconfigurations.
  • Experience safely operating maintenance tools, equipment, forklifts, aerial lifts, or work vehicles.

Ideal Skills and Abilities for both levels I & II:
  • Ability to perform skilled and semi-skilled building maintenance and repair work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and respond to operational and customer service needs in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in a safe and efficient manner.

Ideal Knowledge for both levels I & II:
  • Building maintenance and repair practices and procedures.
  • Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in various building trades.
  • Safety practices and procedures applicable to facilities maintenance work.
  • Methods and techniques related to drywall, flooring, painting, carpentry, and minor plumbing repairs.
  • Basic building maintenance principles and general facility systems knowledge.
  • ADA accessibility considerations and workplace safety requirements.

Ideal Training and Education for both levels I & II:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Required License or Certificate


Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. Individuals who do not meet the driver's license requirement due to a disability will be considered for a reasonable accommodation on a case-by-case basis.

Working Conditions:

Work may be performed in office, warehouse, maintenance shop, and field environments. Duties may require prolonged standing, walking, lifting, climbing ladders, reaching overhead, and operating tools and equipment necessary to perform facilities maintenance functions.

Facilities Management Unit (Position Code 751)
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position requires the individual to be onsite and is typically not a teleworking position.
