
Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District (FSSD) is currently seeking a candidate to fill a full-time position as a Utility Worker.

Our utility worker does a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work throughout the plant to support the overall plant, facilities, and grounds. This is an entry level position with several opportunities for growth and learning.

In summary, this position will be responsible for the following:
- Helps keep the District looking great by maintaining landscaping and grounds, including mowing, trimming, pruning, and keeping walkways, parking lots, and outdoor areas clean.
- Performs hands-on facility maintenance such as repairing fences and roads, maintaining irrigation systems, completing work orders, and assisting with general upkeep of buildings.
- Works alongside maintenance staff to inspect and perform basic maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, pumps, motors, and mechanical systems.
- Assists with sewer collection system work, including cleaning and inspecting sewer lines.

The Utility Worker performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the routine maintenance and repair of the wastewater treatment plant, facilities, grounds, pump stations, and vehicles to ensure clean, orderly, and safe operating conditions in compliance with applicable regulations, codes, and standard operating procedures. The duties of this classification involve work that is physical in nature and requires familiarity with general laborer tasks. This classification may be required to operate some types of mobile and general construction equipment and vehicles.
The Utility Worker is a stand-alone class. Incumbents may work independently or within a team to perform work which primarily involves landscaping maintenance of the plant facility, as well as performing preventative maintenance on equipment and plant facilities, forklift/tractor operation, and assisting operations and maintenance staff as required. This position is designed as a developmental class, serving as a potential steppingstone toward the Maintenance Mechanic I classification.

QUALIFICATIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
AND
Experience:
Six months of employment in laboring work, which has provided some familiarity with the operation and uses of light construction equipment, and/or hand power tools common to a mechanical, metal, or building Trade.
License/Certificate:
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record.
Failure to possess and maintain the required license(s) and/or certificate(s) may be cause for discipline up to and including termination.
- Background Checks: The District may conduct a background check and a reference check on candidates prior to appointment to a position within this class.
- Independent Travel: Incumbents are required to travel independently, for example, to perform work at other work sites, to attend meetings with other District employees, to attend meetings with community organizations, etc.
- Hours of Work: Incumbents may be required to work weekends, holidays, irregular hours, and after normal business hours.
