THE POSITION: The Alameda County Water District, located in Fremont, California, is seeking to hire a Distribution Maintenance Manager to join the Operations and Maintenance Department team. The Distribution Maintenance Manager position, under administrative direction from the Director of Operations and Maintenance, plans, schedules, directs, coordinates, and reviews, through subordinate supervisors, the operation and maintenance of the District's water distribution system; provides oversight and direction to the meter repair shop, cross connection control program, and warehouse operations; establishes and revises operating methods and procedures for the division and coordinates distribution system activities with the Water Supply Division, Water Production Division, Facilities Maintenance Division, and the Engineering Department; prepares the annual budget request for the division, estimates staffing, materials and equipment needs; monitors and controls unit expenditures after budget adoption; and performs related work as required. This job class requires initiative, accuracy, attention to detail, organizational skills, the ability to focus on multiple tasks, and professional level analytical and evaluative judgment.

SALARY: $187,611-$228,052, plus excellent benefits.

Education and Experience

Possession of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, business, or a related field; and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in the installation, operation, and maintenance of a water distribution system, including three (3) years of lead experience directing the work of others in the field and one (1) year of supervisory experience. Completion of the District's Leadership Skills Training Program is required following hire.

Supervisory experience strongly desired. Current ACWD Employees: 75% completion of the District's Leadership Skills Training Program may substitute for one (1) year of supervisory experience. If the internal candidate has already completed the Leadership Skills Training Program, they do not need to complete the program for a second time if promoted.

Additional Requirements:

- Must possess a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

- Must possess a Water Distribution Operator Grade 3 certification issued by the California Department of Water Resources.

- Candidates who do not possess a Water Distribution Operator Grade 3. Must have a Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 certification and a Professional License/ Certification (e.g. California State Registration as a Professional Engineer). Must obtain a Water Distribution Operator Grade 3 certification issued by the California Department of Water Resources within 24 months of appointment.

- Must obtain a Water Distribution Operator Grade 4 certification issued by the California Department of Water Resources within 24 months of appointment.

- Must obtain a Water Distribution Operator Grade 5 certification issued by the California Department of Water Resources within 48 months of appointment.- Must obtain a Cross Connection Specialist certification within 24 months of appointment.

-Progression through the salary range will be predicated on the attainment of the required certifications and licensure listed here.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Candidates who are most qualified will be invited to participate in a qualification's appraisal, which may include a written and/or practical exercise as well as an interview by an appraisal panel.

Candidates passing the qualifications appraisal process will be ranked on an employment list for further consideration. Top-ranking candidates will be invited to an interview with the hiring Supervisor.
