EBMUD Job Title: Account Clerk II (Temporary)

Salary Info: $6,358 - $7,728 Monthly

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified applicants to apply for a temporary position (up to six months) position in the Accounts Payable Unit within the Accounting Division. The Account Clerk II performs a variety of routine to difficult clerical work in the preparation and maintenance of financial, accounting, fiscal, and statistical records. This position requires knowledge of basic arithmetic computation, accounting, and bookkeeping procedures.

Typical duties will include:

  • Entering data from various sources such as invoices, journal vouchers, job charges, accounts receivable billing reports and receipt verifications on a PC or a 10-key calculator.
  • Calculating amounts on invoices, wage authorizations, and bank account reconciliations.
  • Validating account coding by inputting data into a PC.
  • Manually matching invoices to approved packing slips and/or receiving documents.
  • Reviewing timesheets.
  • Verifying amounts dispersed by matching advance authorizations to expense reports.
  • Manually compiling documentation such as field orders, material requisitions, and material returns.
  • Reconciling paid account documents such as invoices and receipts.
  • Reconciling disbursements authorizations, payroll labor edits.
  • Analyzing receiving reports such as unmatched vouchers and check registers.
  • Entering data into a networked personal computer in a high-volume environment.
  • Computing, compiling, verifying and reconciling figures on computer reports, and other accounting documents and forms; may code information according to established procedures.
  • Assisting in balancing accounts and posting totals onto accounting system and ledgers.
  • Gathering, sorting, and searching records and files to provide factual data and trace discrepancies to balance and reconcile accounts.
  • Contacting EBMUD personnel by telephone or in writing to obtain additional information.
  • Typing envelopes, form letters, and checks.
  • Organizing and maintaining records and files.
  • Assisting lead accounting staff as required.
  • Operating personal computers and preparing Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.

Requirements:

  1. Completion of the twelfth grade, or its equivalent; and
  2. One year of experience in the preparation of accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, statistical, billing, or other financial records.
  3. Willingness to work overtime as needed.

The most competitive candidates will have the ability to produce a high volume of work while maintaining accuracy and quality, the ability to exercise judgment in allocation of time and resources to achieve objectives and meet deadlines, and a working knowledge of personal computer spreadsheet software applications such as Word and Excel and server-based accounting applications.
