

Associate Civil Engineer (Distribution System Engineering)(Temporary)
East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified employees to apply for this (T) temporary (up to 6 months) position in the Pipeline Infrastructure Division of the EBMUD's Area Engineering Section. The Section is responsible for managing and implementing pipeline relocation projects to accommodate new construction for local agencies within the EBMUD's service area. In addition, the Section leads local agency coordination meetings to discuss project schedules, areas to collaborate, and concerns to resolve.
The ideal candidate is motivated, energetic, and experienced in water distribution facilities design and project management. You will assume a lead role in managing and coordinating projects within an EBMUD Service Area and work closely with that Service Area.
Under the direction of a Senior Civil Engineer, specific responsibilities may include:
- Acting as an Area Engineer for EBMUD by leading coordination meetings with Cities/Counties as well as coordinating with the many internal EBMUD stakeholders to understand project needs.
- Designing pipeline relocation and system improvements with Engineering Designers.
- Assisting with project management duties to ensure project stays within scope, on schedule, and within budget, and complies with the terms of EBMUD's funding agreement with the California Department of Water Resources.
- Meeting with and preparing quarterly reports to the State outlining accomplishments and requesting reimbursement of funds.
- Directing a multi-disciplinary team to develop and evaluate operational studies, developing and evaluating project alternatives, identifying CEQA requirements, and assisting in the preparation of preliminary and final plans and specifications.
- Preparing and leading the civil/structural design effort for the project including review and preparation of engineering plans, structural calculations, estimates and reports required for the project.
- Preparing technical memoranda summarizing design criteria and preliminary site layouts for use as basis for detailed design.
- Preparing pipeline design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for the development of construction bid documents.

REQUIREMENTS
- A bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited engineering curriculum OR a California EIT certificate; AND
- Two years of engineering experience at a level comparable to or higher than EBMUD's Assistant Engineer class (total of four years of responsible experience).
- California registration as a Professional Civil Engineer.
- Possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
