Industrial Electrician I: $97,094.40 - $124,259.20 Annually
Industrial Electrician II: $112,611.20 - $144,164.80 Annually

Overview:
Valley Water is seeking a skilled industrial electrician I/II with a passion for troubleshooting distribution and water treatment systems. This position will perform a variety of entry-level and/or journey-level skilled electrical work including in the maintenance, installation, inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical equipment and systems typically found in high-volume water distribution and water treatment systems. This position will be based out of any one of Valley Water's water treatment plants with work responsibilities residing throughout the valley. A company vehicle and tools will be provided to allow transportation between sites. This position requires 24-hour on-call responsibilities in rotating one-week durations after proper training has been established (typically, at one year).

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Perform maintenance, repair, inspection, testing, and installation of electrical and related equipment in large pumping plants and raw water distribution systems/water treatment plants and treated water distribution systems, and power generation facilities.
Test low and high voltage electrical equipment including circuits, transformers, small and large motors, high voltage switches, and electrical components of process control, telemetering, cathodic protection systems, and electronic equipment boards. Diagnose problems and determine needed repairs or modifications; install conduit and pull wires for motors, control panels, and lighting fixtures.
Interpret diagrams and schematics; perform work according to drawings; create as-built drawings of electrical installations. Inspect, maintain, repair, install, and test varied equipment including circuits, transformers, switches, motors, pumps, controls, power generating equipment, and electrical components of telemetering and cathodic protection systems; troubleshoot problems; determine needed repairs.
Make rough estimates of materials and equipment required for jobs assigned; order required equipment, materials, and supplies. Maintain accurate accounts of time, labor, materials, and equipment for work performed; complete daily logs; prepare oral and written reports as necessary.
Determine precautions and follow safe and effective work procedures, check job sites for potential hazards. Operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Ideal Experience for both levels I & II:

Industrial Electrician I: One (1) year of experience performing electrician responsibilities in an industrial, manufacturing, utility, and/or large commercial setting.
Industrial Electrician II: One (1) year of post-apprenticeship experience performing electrician responsibilities in an industrial, manufacturing, utility, and/or large commercial setting. In lieu of a journey person certificate, candidate should possess four (4) years of experience performing journey-level electrician responsibilities in an industrial, manufacturing, utility, and/or large commercial setting for a total of five (5) years of experience in this area.

Ideal Skills and Abilities for Industrial Electrician I:

Learn basic electrical alternating and direct current theory.
Learn and explain basic AC and DC motor theory and operation.
Learn and explain basic electrical troubleshooting techniques.
Learn the proper maintenance, installation, and testing of a variety of electrical components and equipment. Learn to prepare clear and concise reports.
Pass an electrical apprenticeship test.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
12th grade supplemented by industrial or vocational training in electrical theory or practices.
Completion of some college level electronics, math, electrical engineering, or other field related courses.

Ideal Skills and Abilities for Industrial Electrician II:

Prepare clear and concise reports.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
To safely work with little to no direct supervision on a variety of electrical devices and controls associated with water treatment and distribution.
Maintain, repair, install, and test a variety of electrical components, circuits, and equipment.
Troubleshoot electrical circuits.
Operate various tools, instruments, and equipment used in the testing and repair of electrical equipment.
Analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
Proven ability to diagnose problems and determine needed repairs or modifications; install conduit and pull wires for motors, control panels, and lighting fixtures.
Interpret and explain Valley Water policies and procedures relating to electrical maintenance programs.
Interpret diagrams and schematics.
Determine precautions and follow safe and effective work procedures, check job sites for potential hazards and operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.

Ideal Knowledge for both levels Industrial Electrician I/II:

Knowledge of operations, services and activities of power distribution system maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of operational methods and practices associated with water treatment process.
Knowledge of principles and procedures of NFPA 70E requirements.
Knowledge of principles and applications of NEC requirements.
Knowledge of principles and procedures of LOTO, confined space entry, and hazardous materials handling.
Familiar with the use, operation, and maintenance of a variety of specialized electrical test equipment and tools.

Ideal Training and Education for both levels Industrial Electrician I/II

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Completion of a certification course in electrical systems for the Industrial Electrician I is ideal.
Completion of an Electrical apprenticeship program for the Industrial Electrician II.
4+ years of military electrical training is acceptable.

Required License or Certificate

Certificates in any one or more of these are desirable:

Industrial Electrician I - California State Electrical Certification, CWEA Grade I, Certificate of completion in any related electrical coursework or experience.
Industrial Electrician II - Journeyman's card, California State Electrical Certification or CWEA Grade II or higher.

Required License:

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.

Treatment Plant Maintenance Unit (Position Code 1032)

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position requires the individual to be onsite and is typically not a teleworking position.
