Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a motivated and skilled Mechanic I/II to join our Fabrication, Maintenance, and Construction (FMC) Team. This full-time position offers a chance to work at our leading Wastewater Treatment Facility, servicing the Fremont, Newark, and Union City communities. The Mechanic I/II position offers a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package.
We also expect to have additional Mechanic I/II – Limited Duration positions available in the immediate future. These positions are expected to last 7-10 years and are fully benefited and at the same salary range. We will be creating a list with this recruitment to fill our upcoming positions.

- Mechanic I: Learn and perform semi-skilled, sub-journey work in mechanical equipment repair, routine maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and more.
- Mechanic II: Perform journey-level work in mechanical equipment repair, routine maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and more.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
Mechanic I: Education sufficient to demonstrate skill in following oral and written instructions in English, keeping standard records, and performing shop mathematical calculations accurately PLUS 2 years' experience in performing semi-skilled, sub-journey mechanical maintenance and repair of shop, field, plant, and construction equipment.
Mechanic II: Completion of the twelfth grade or its equivalent, and attainment of recognized journey-level status as a Maintenance/Plant Mechanic.
For Both Levels:
- Possess a valid Class C California driver's license and be insurable by the District.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based organization.
- Skills with computer-based maintenance systems and general MS Office programs.
- Physical ability to perform critical job duties, including willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and work overtime as needed.
- Will be required to be in an on-call mechanic rotation pool once sufficient skills have been achieved.

Candidates whose scores on the Performance Test qualify them for further consideration will be invited to a Virtual Qualifications Appraisal Interview on Wednesday or Thursday, 3/20 – 3/21/2024. Finalist interviews will be held on Wednesday, 3/27/2024 onsite.
