The Materials Specialist is responsible for coordinating the purchase, requisition or acquisition of materials, supplies, tools, parts, and equipment using a specialized work order system. The Materials Specialist is also responsible for the storekeeping, transportation, handling, and recordkeeping (manually or computerized) of materials, supplies, tools, parts, and equipment. The Materials Specialist exercises a broad latitude of independent judgment and action in coordinating activities related to the stores function.
Typical duties include:
- Coordinating and preparing requisitions for materials, supplies, tools, parts, and equipment.
- Maintaining a cumulative list of local vendors.
- Acting as liaison with local vendors.
- Obtaining data and information from local vendors and service providers.
- Helping coordinate and review Requests for Proposal (RFP)/ proposals/bids.
- Maintaining records for outside services and managing vendors.
- Maintaining inventory of materials, supplies and equipment.
- Purchasing parts and materials using a purchase card and providing accurate and timely monthly reconciliation.
- Making necessary stock level adjustments, establishing re-order points, insuring inventory movements are entered into the computer or manually recorded.
- Picking up and delivering materials, supplies, tools, parts, and equipment from various places to prevent work delays or to enhance productivity.
- Managing shipping and receiving functions.
- Unpacking and inspecting deliveries for damages and completeness of orders.
- Storing materials, supplies and parts received in a logical and orderly fashion.
- Batching materials and equipment for large projects.
- Preparing materials for shipment.
The salary range is $7,867 per month increasing to $8,260, $8,673, and $9,107 after 12, 24, and 36 months, respectively.

Requirements:
1. A high school diploma; AND
2. Three years of increasingly responsible storekeeping experience, two years of which must have been at the level of EBMUD's Storekeeper II classification.
3. Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
4. Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job, including dexterity, stamina, and physical strength to load and unload materials, tools, and equipment of various bulk and weight, including lifting objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
