The Alameda County Water District, located in Fremont, California, is a large water utility with state-of-the-art technology, is recruiting for a Treatment Facility Operator to inspect, operate, and provide minor maintenance of membrane treatment facilities, reservoirs, regulator stations, booster stations, and chemical injection equipment at the blending facility and remote sites; and to monitor and operate the distribution system using the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

Treatment Facilities Operator is the journey level classification in this series. Individuals in the classification are fully qualified and are responsible for the inspection, operation and minor maintenance of all membrane treatment facilities, reservoirs and chemical injection equipment at the Blending Facility and remote sites, including repair duties of a routine nature requiring good electro-mechanical aptitude.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or its equivalent; and

A minimum of two (2) years' of progressively responsible experience in water utility operations with an individual responsibility for treatment facility operations.

Additional Requirements:
-Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
- Possession of State of California Department of Health Services Water Treatment Operator T-2 certificate.

Knowledge of: elemental mechanical, electrical and hydraulic principles; methods and practices of water treatment and dewatering operations and maintenance of pumps, motors and piping; arithmetic; identification, use and safe operation of standard hand and power tools and equipment; safe work practices and pertinent safety regulations.

Skill and Ability to: read and interpret gauge and recording devices; safely use and maintain a variety of hand tools and equipment; perform simple arithmetic calculations; observe and accurately record operating conditions and make verbal or written reports; keep neat and accurate records; understand and follow written and verbal instructions; effectively operate a mobile radio and PC based SCADA system; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and perform essential duties of the job without causing harm to self or others.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

  2. Completed application materials must be submitted online no later than 5:00 p.m., June 14, 2024.
  3. Application materials will be evaluated, and candidates who present the best job-related qualifications will be invited to participate in a written test. Successful candidates from the written test will be invited to a qualification appraisal interview panel.
  4. Candidates passing the qualifications appraisal process will be ranked on an employment list for further consideration. Top-ranking candidates will be invited to a personal interview with the hiring Supervisor.
  5. Employment offers are normally made following conduct of reference checks and are always contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam, and security background checks. Employment is made contingent upon verification of identity and legal right to work in the U.S.A. pursuant to federal law, and the signing of a loyalty oath, pursuant to state law.
  6. Represented employee applications receive promotional consideration consistent with the provisions of the MOU.
