An immediate position is available at East Bay Municipal Utility District's (EBMUD) Pardee Center based near Valley Springs, approximately 85 miles from EBMUD headquarters in Oakland. The Hydroelectric Power Plant Mechanic is a journey level classification with responsibility for operations and maintenance of power plants, pumping plants, and water storage and conveyance systems. This classification is distinguished from the Hydroelectric Power Plant Supervisor in that the Hydroelectric Power Plant Supervisor is responsible for the overall operations and maintenance of plant equipment and for the supervision of a crew of operations and maintenance personnel.


Typical duties include: (Illustrative only)
Installs, repairs, maintains, overhauls, and adjusts a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment used in hydroelectric power generation and water storage and conveyance.
Performs preventive maintenance on hydroelectric power mechanical and electrical plant equipment and facilities and water storage and conveyance facilities on a regular basis.
Maintains assigned sites, facilities, and adjacent areas in a clean, safe, orderly, and presentable condition.
Reads and interprets drawings, plans, and specifications.
Makes rough estimates of labor and materials necessary for the performance of work.
Keeps records and makes reports of work performed.
Develops job or maintenance plans for preventative and corrective maintenance using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS); uses CMMS to create, view, and update work orders.
Operates generators, switches, and other hydroelectric power plant equipment.
May perform all the duties of a Hydroelectric Power Plant Operator as required.


The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented person with extensive experience in the maintenance of hydroelectric power generation facilities, including applicable regulations; the ability to learn and promote the use of new technologies to improve work processes. The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with staff, other EBMUD work groups, EBMUD management, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders. The successful candidate must also possess demonstrated abilities to prioritize, plan, organize, oversee, and document the work of a multidisciplinary and diverse workforce.


The salary range is $10,409 per month increasing to $10,929, $11,475, and $12,049 after 6, 18, and 30 months, respectively.

Requirements:
1. A high school diploma; and,
2. Three years of journey level experience in the operation, installation, repair, or maintenance of mechanical or electrical or electromechanical equipment similar to that utilized in a hydroelectric power plant or large pumping plant.
3. Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.
4. Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class. Must be willing to work rotating shifts in a 24 hours per day, 7 days per week operation, and to work overtime as needed on short notice. Must be willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. May be required to be clean shaven on a scheduled basis as required to wear respiratory protection equipment.
