The Summer 2025 Internship Program will provide interns with training and experience leveraging collaboration tools while either working on-site or hybrid. Summer Interns will be given one-on-one mentorship, professional development training and an hourly pay of $26.31. At the end of the program interns are to prepare and present a Capstone presentation to share their experience and achievements.
About The Information Technology Division Deputy's Office:
The Information Technology Division Deputy's Office leads and oversees the IT Division and ensures that core IT services are met for all infrastructure, applications, networking, data center, and customer services. The Division supports 13 staffed facilities with secure networks connecting over 80 locations, 400 physical and virtual servers, and 2,400 computers/tablets and has a central data center with nine satellite data centers for business continuity. In addition, the Division supports a hybrid TDM/VoIP telecommunications network with over 2,500 phones, 180 emergency service radios, 400+ mobile devices, and 200+ software applications including: ERP (Infor), Asset Management (IBM Maximo), Email/calendar (Microsoft Exchange), Microsoft Active Directory, and GIS (ESRI). The IT Division is broken into four business units: Innovation, IT Projects & Business Operations, Software Services, and Infrastructure Services.
INTERNSHIP LOCATION STATUS: This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite. For hybrid work, intern must perform their work in the state of California within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in (San Jose, California) by their start date.
Required License or Certificate
WE LOOK FOR INTERNS WHO ARE:
- Students pursuing a degree in computer science, information technology, computer or software engineering, business administration, public administration, or related field.
- Passionate about gaining project management skills while stepping into the field of IT.
- Eager to learn about the inner workings of a public agency from the Executive Office level.
- Understanding of basic statistics, probability theory, statistical sampling, optimization, and regression analysis.
- Familiar or have a basic understanding of IT systems, networks, or applications gained through coursework, projects, or personal interests.
- Able to gather, organize, and analyze data to support IT projects and initiatives.
- Excellent in written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable engaging new people in any environment.
AS AN INTERN YOU WILL:
- Participate in biweekly learning sessions held every other Friday alongside fellow interns, focusing on elevating career readiness and cultivating professional development skills.
- Draft and edit communications, reports, memos and talking points for the Division.
- Assist with the development of training materials for end users or staff on new systems or tools.
- Assist in compiling metrics for the Division's performance, such as infrastructure uptime, customer satisfaction, or application response times.
- Participate in various research, analysis, and benchmarking related to core IT services.
- Compile and organize data from stakeholders to support strategic planning sessions.
- Prepare visual aids or presentations to communicate key strategic goals and progress updates.
- Provide overall support to the Information Technology Division and management team with various assignments and special projects.
Selection Process
ELIGIBILITY:
The Summer Internship Program is open to undergraduate & graduate students who are third year and above enrolled in a college/university for Fall 2025.
- Pass a pre-employment screening process, including a background check.
- Proof of enrollment will be required prior to start of assignment.
- Can work full-time (40 hours/week) during the Summer Internship Program
- May 27 - August 15, 2025 (Semester Students)
- June 16 - September 5, 2025 (Quarter Students)
