Wastewater Operator-in-Training (OIT)
Compensation and Duration
This is a volunteer position. Volunteer assignment can be through a local college Water and Wastewater Technology program (Solano Community College or Santa Rosa Junior College) or directly with Napa Sanitation District (NapaSan). Volunteer days and hours are negotiable. You may volunteer up to 1,800 hours total. NapaSan will pay the fees for the OIT license with the State Water Resources Control Board, if not yet licensed.

NapaSan – 1515 Soscol Ferry Road in Napa (near the airport)
Description of Work
NapaSan collects, treats, recycles, and disposes wastewater for the Napa community. NapaSan is looking for individuals wanting a career as a wastewater operator and need hours for their state certification. The successful applicant will work alongside trained professionals as they learn treatment processes, instrumentation calibration, equipment operations and other tasks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed:
Ability to apply science and math concepts to real situations
Willingness to do physical labor with hand and power tools outdoors in all weather
Ability to work as part of a team
Desire to learn skills now that can help lead to a future career
Be safety oriented
What Successful Applicant Will Receive
Hours of work experience toward state license requirements in the wastewater industry
Operator-In-Training State License fees paid by NapaSan
Experience with multiple treatment processes in a Class 5 Treatment Plant
Time and help from wastewater professionals to study for Grade I or II state certification tests
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent
Possess a California Class C Driver's License and maintain satisfactory driving record
Enrollment in Water and Wastewater Technology or related coursework is strongly encouraged
Six (6) educational points (a 3-unit college semester math or science course is equal to eight (8)
educational points and ten (10) classroom hours are equal to one (1) educational point)
