San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) is looking for an experienced, agile, dynamic, and skilled Maximo support engineer who can administer existing systems, provide team leadership and project management, and is excited about enhancing, developing, and integrating new innovative business solutions for standard and mobile platforms. Under the general direction of the Maximo Support Team supervisor, the Principal Information Systems Engineer will develop and maintain applications related to asset, maintenance, and work management, primarily for the IBM Maximo asset management system and its integration with both SFPUC and other City departments' enterprise systems (e.g., GIS, CRM, CMMS, data warehouse, financial and timekeeping systems). The principal engineer will also lead projects and improvement initiatives, collaborating and coordinating with stakeholders across the SFPUC business enterprises.
General Classification Duties
Conceptualizes the need for and plans and ensures maintenance, design, implementations and enhancement of commercial software packages, internally developed applications and web services
Conceptualizes designs and oversees the customization of new features to commercial software packages and internally developed applications according to end user requests
Oversees the day-to-day operations of various applications
Oversees the development of new applications based on customer's requirements and specifications
Designs and writes test plans and ensures performance of applications, designs and
leads implementation of fixes for problems as they arise and leads product launches
Provides leadership for technical support and leads the troubleshooting of problems related to applications
Leads and guides writing of technical documentation and develops and implements best development practices regarding version control and testing
Oversees performance of software upgrades and keeps track of software licensing
Manages vender relationships including scoping of application services and review of deliverables
Perform other related duties as assigned
Maximo Specific Server Administrator:
Maintain Maximo and associated servers;
Monitor performance and resolve server issues in the timely manner;
Perform routine server maintenance (e.g., patch management) per the standard SFPUC IT system maintenance schedule (occasional off hours and weekend work)
As a Maximo Support Engineer:
Provide direct user support; troubleshoot and resolve production application, integration, and systemwide problems;
Develop, test, and support: system interfaces using Oracle PL/SQL, XML data, web services; mobile solutions using REST services, Java/Javascript/Jython; Maximo application customizations using Java class extensions or Jython scripts;
Create and consume web services and web service clients;
Maintain data and operational integrity and security of systems;
Actively lead and participate in testing and application of software upgrades; lead feasibility analysis, technology and software assessments; prepare detailed project plans and schedules.
Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
A Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering or a closely related technical field from an accredited college or university, and
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining the components in IBM Maximo environment in an enterprise network.
Substitution:
Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units/ forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in computer science or a closely related field.
Desirable Qualifications:
Maximo architecture, object structures, and system configuration components
Oracle - designing and developing databases, writing intermediate to advanced level PL/SQL queries, troubleshooting code, integrating databases, creating views, stored procedures and triggers, doing backups, and performing software upgrades
XML and web services - working knowledge of XML, HTML, and web services
Java - developing applications using Java, JavaBeans, J2EE application model including EJBs, JDBC, JSP and servlets, scripting with JavaScript or Jython
Working knowledge of WebSphere application server configuration and usage;
Working knowledge of third-party software for IBM Maximo
Business requirements gathering, business process analysis, and business process documentation
Technical team supervisory and/or project management
Experience in the water, wastewater, or power utility industries
IBM Maximo v7.6 System Administration training and certification
